About

In Quanzhen 全真 (Complete Perfection) monasteries, the primary form of communal religious practice centers on recitation of the morning and evening liturgy, referred to as Xuanmen risong zaowan gongke 玄門日誦早晚功課 (Morning and Evening Liturgy of the Mysterious Gate for Daily Recitation) or Quanzhen zaowan tan gongke 全真早晚壇功課 (Morning and Evening Liturgy of Complete Perfection).  Under the supervision of Dr. Louis Komjathy, members of the Daoist Foundation have created a reformatted version of the liturgy for use by Daoists who are not fluent in Chinese. The  "Daoist Foundation edition" consists of two volumes, the morning and evening liturgy, which are a complete transcription of the standardized liturgy published by the Chinese Daoist Association (Zhongguo daojiao xiehui 中國道教協會) under the direction of the late Min Zhiting 閔智亭 (1924-2004) in 2004.  The Daoist Foundation edition follows the traditional Chinese format (Chinese characters from top to bottom and right to left). In addition to the Chinese characters, we have added the Pinyin romanization as well as a single English translation for each character (view sample).

The Daoist Foundation has printed copies of the two-volume American edition of the Quanzhen liturgy for dissemination. Interested individuals and communities may send a written request with a $150 donation to the Daoist Foundation.   In your letter of correspondence, please indicate your intended use for the liturgy.
