Daoist Studies Summer Seminar
Join us for our annual remote 5-day intensive Daoist Studies Summer Seminar 道學沙龍 (DSSS), with a specific focus on developing a contemplative and practice-based Daoist approach to the Zhuāngzǐ 莊子 (Book of Master Zhuang). This is the flagship event of the Center for Daoist Studies 道學中心 and New Daoist Studies (NDS). The seminar is scheduled from Monday, July 6 to Friday, July 10 from 10am-4pm CDT each day. In this seminar, Dr. Komjathy will share his expertise as a leading Daoist scholar-practitioner and translator of Daoist literature, including his nearly 30-year engagement with the Zhuāngzǐ. Utilizing a Daoist study-practice approach (SPA), the seminar will take participants through the socio-historical context of the Zhuāngzǐ, specifically the Inner Cultivation Lineages of classical Daoism, systematic outline of the text, and close textual reading. In the process, we will give particular attention to Daoist ways of reading, interpreting, and applying this foundational Daoist scripture (dàojīng 道經). There also will be optional Quiet Standing and Quiet Sitting sessions each day at 9:15am CDT and 4:00pm CDT, respectively. No prior experience, including knowledge of classical Chinese, is necessary. All are welcome.
